About Hooting Owl Distillery
Hooting Owl is a small batch, artisan distillery based within the Historic Bar Walls of York & is the city’s first licensed distillery.
Founded in 2017 by craft distiller, Dominic M’Benga, Hooting Owl is best know for its Yorkshire gins, each inspired by a different area of the region and distilled using at least 15 different botanicals.
Dominic was born and bred in Yorkshire and uses his knowledge and love of the county to build the recipes for his multiple award-winning, premium spirits which include gin, rum and vodka.
He takes inspiration and flavours from around the Yorkshire region to create a top-quality range of hand-crafted, small batch spirits.
The company’s base, Barmby Moor House, once a famous public house and iconic coaching inn, is steeped in history spanning several centuries.
Meet The Distiller
Dom runs our Gin school where he takes visitors through producing their own Gin using their preferred botanical flavours. Whether you want to infuse your favourite fruit or a combination of herbs and spices, we will develop a Gin that perfectly fits the bill. We can also store the recipe and method in our safe for ordering in the future, which is not available to anyone else.
